Dangerous Drivers-What Can You Do?

Whether it’s speeding on the highway, weaving in and out of traffic, pulling out in front of someone, or running red lights, we witness dangerous driving every day.

You may even think to yourself, That person is going to cause an accident! Where’s the police when you need them?

As safe drivers, we need to report these incidents when we see them, because these behaviors has a negative effect on us all.

How?

In addition to the pain, suffering, and physical damage from the accidents they cause, you may not realize that auto insurance rates increase for everyone as insurers adjust for the added risks in the wake of this destructive behavior.

If more of us report and get these drivers off the road, we will help prevent accidents–and our insurance rates will stabilize. Maybe even decrease–yes, this has happened before!

Insurers report that bad drivers also have a negative, rippling impact on our economy. Increased demand for repairs, parts, and labor–especially with supply chain issues–means that the cost of goods and services have increased  substantially.

Victims of bad drivers have the expense of meeting deductibles and may even need to replace their vehicles well before they had planned, taking out loans that affect credit scores. Additional costs add up when we consider the time spent dealing with the repairs, claim submissions, and finding a replacement vehicle.

Even life insurance costs are affected by bad drivers as the risks increase through deadly accidents.

What can you do to help?

Report aggressive drivers on your smartphone @ 911 or *SP.  Be safe while reporting and use hands free dialing. (If you haven't set this up on your phone, this is a good reminder to do so.)

Even if you can’t provide specific information about the license plate number, describe where YOU are, the direction you’re traveling, and what you know about the vehicle and the behavior you have witnessed.

Do not try to follow aggressive drivers, especially if it causes you to violate the law. You might become the target of road rage or cause an accident yourself.

Proactively, make sure you are covered in case you are the victim of bad or aggressive driving. Call us today to review your auto insurance policy. We are always happy to talk to you about what works best for your specific needs.
